• Change filters
Changing your HVAC filter, the easiest maintenance to keep your air clean and your system running efficiently, the simplest of all, typically 30 or 90 days depending on the type of filter. Dirty filters can restrict airflow, making your system work harder and increasing your energy costs.
• Check refrigerant levels
Regularly check the refrigerant levels in your air conditioning system and refill them before they run out. Refrigerants have recently changed, check with a qualified HVAC contractor for the proper type or system that sometimes needs upgrades.
• Clean coils
Keep the evaporator and condenser coils clean to prevent them from getting clogged with dirt and debris. Washing your AC coils increases efficiency.
• Clean the system
Regularly clean your vents, ducts, coils, and registers to keep your system healthy. Dirty systems can make your air less efficient at heating or cooling your home.
• Check thermostat
Regularly check your thermostat and replace the batteries if needed. A malfunctioning thermostat can cause your system to work inefficiently or not at all. Upgrading your thermostat is even better. Newer thermostat programming optimizes systems performance.
• Thermostat adjustments
Use your thermostat's programming capabilities to optimize your system's efficiency. Set your thermostat to lower temperatures in the winter when you're away or asleep and raise them in the summer.
• Inspect the outdoor unit
Check for debris, leaves, grass, or bushes obstructing the outdoor HVAC unit. 2-3 ft of space around the unit should be fine so it can breathe and be accessible to technicians.
• Inspect for pests
Check for bee nests or rodents nesting in the bottom of the HVAC unit or chewing on wires.
• Hire the professional,
Professional HVAC technicians have the proper certifications such as (NATE) and the US EPA 608 Certifications for working with refrigerants. Professional certifications validate that a field technician, with verifiable industry experience, possesses the knowledge to be competent in the industry to work on your system.
